What are the Task Manager and Task Scheduler?

Created and configured in the Task Manager, a Task queries Events, Hosts, or Scanner Events in an Event-Management Database to perform an operation. Table 31 describes each type of Task in the Task Manager.

In the Task Scheduler, you can create Scheduled Tasks. A Scheduled Task defines a schedule for TLC to run:

A Copy Task, Delete Task, Archive Task, or Report Task (see Table 31),

A Saved Query that generates an Audit Logger Report (see Working with Audit Logger Queries), or

An Audit Logger Archive Task (see Archiving Log Messages).

In addition, you can create and schedule a Scheduled Task for a Script Task. A Script Task runs a script to perform an administrative task, such as running a backup routine.

To create and run Scheduled Tasks, the Schedule Engine must be added as a module in the properties of the Manager that will run the Scheduled Tasks (see Working with Managers).
