What are Internet Tools?

The Internet ToolsA TLC Console component in which you can run queries with conventional utilities to gather information about Hosts (e.g. NSLookup, Ping, Traceroute, and Whois). in Tripwire LogCenter run queries with conventional utilities to gather information about Hosts. To simplify the process of executing these utilities, each Internet Tool (see Table 33) provides a form in which you can define the parameters of each utility.

Table 33. Internet Tools

Tool	Description
NSLookup (Name Server Lookup)	Resolves a system's IP address or host name. If the system has a valid IP address, TLC will determine the host name. If the system has a valid host name, TLC will determine the IP address.
Ping	Runs a Ping query to check the responsiveness of a system.
Traceroute	Runs a traceroute query to identify the route taken by packets across your IP network.
Whois	Runs a WHOIS query to identify the IP address and/or host name of a system.
