With TLC's Internet Tools, you can:
Run a Whois, Ping, NSLookup, or Traceroute query on a Host.
Query other resources for information about a Host.
Convert data from one format to another (ASCII text, Hexadecimal, or Base64).
To run a query on a Host with Internet Tools:
1. | From the bar, select View > Internet Tools to open the Internet Tools tab, or click one of the following buttons in the button bar to open a specific tab in the Internet Tools tab: |
To open the Whois tab, clickWhois.
To open the Ping tab, clickPing.
To open the NSLookup tab, clickNSLookup.
To open the Traceroute tab, clickTraceroute.
2. | In the Host/IP field, enter the IP address or host name of the Host to be queried. |
3. | To query the Host, configure the Whois, Ping, NSLookup, or Traceroute tab query (see Table 110) and click Start. |
To query other resources for information about the Host, select the resource in the Web References tab and click Start.
To convert data, configure the Encoding tab and click Start.

NSLookup |
The Output tab presents the results of the NSLookup query to resolve the IP address or host name entered in the Host/IP field. The Advanced Settings tab provides additional fields to configure the NSLookup query. DNS Server. The IP address of the DNS server that will execute the query. By default, this is the IP address of the local machine. Timeout. If the DNS server does not respond within the timeout specified here, TLC will terminate the query. Query Types. Select each type of query to be run. To select all query types, select Select All. |
Whois |
Configures a Whois query to identify the Host. Whois Server. The host name of the server that will execute the query. You can either select a server from the drop-down, enter the host name in this field, or select Auto Select to have TLC assign a server. |
Traceroute |
Configures a Traceroute query to identify the route taken by packets across your IP network. Hop timeout. Individual hop timeout in seconds for each Host. Maximum # of hops. Maximum number of hops to perform. Traceroute timeout. The query timeout. Resolve IP addresses. If enabled, the query will attempt to resolve each IP address. |
Ping |
Configures a Ping query to check the responsiveness of the Host. Ping packet size. The size of each Ping packet in bytes. Packet count. The number of packets with which to Ping the Host. Packet timeout.The timeout for each Ping packet. |
Host Location |
Country. The country in which the Host is located. |
Web References |
Lookup. Contains a list of resources from which you can display further information about the Host. |
Encoding |
Converts data from one format to another. Supported formats include ASCII text, Hexadecimal, or Base64. To convert data: 1. Select a format from the Source data format drop-down, and enter the source data in the field below. 2. From the Output data format drop-down, select the format to which you want to convert the source data. 3. Click Start. TLC presents the converted data in the field beneath the Output Data Format drop-down. |
