Changing a Manager's Email Settings

In the following circumstances, you must configure the Email tab in a Manager's properties dialog:

If one or more recipients have been added to the Email Report tab in a Scheduled Task (see Working with the Task Scheduler) that applies to the Manager, TLC will refer to these settings to send e-mails to the recipients.

If the Manager is backed up by a Failover Manager (see Adding a Failover Manager), TLC will refer to these settings to e-mail the administrator user account with updates when/if the failover process is initiated.

To change the email settings for a Manager:

1. In the side bar, select Resources >Configuration ManagerConfiguration Manager.
2. In the side bar of the Configuration Manager, select ResourcesResources >ManagersManagers.
3. In the workspace, double-click a Manager.
4. In the Manager dialog, select and edit the Email tab (see Table 45).
5. To test the settings in the Email tab, click Test.

Note

To reset the Email tab to the default settings, click Reset.

UI Element

Description

Subject

The IP Address or host name of the email server used by the Manager. To specify a port, append the port number to the end of the IP address or host name; for example:

smtp.server.com:465

The email address from which messages are sent.

Authentication

An authentication method to be used by the Manager.

Enable SSL/TLS

Enables either Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) or Transport Layer Security (TLS) for email messages. If the SMTP Server field specifies port 587, TLC uses TLS. Otherwise, TLC uses SSL.

SMTP user account

The username of an SMTP user account. TLC uses this account to authenticate with the SMTP server.

Password

The password for the user account.

Enable SMTP email proxy

If you use an SMTP email proxy, select this option to enable the proxy.

Cryptographic Protocols

If the Enable SSL/TLS setting is selected, you can specify the cryptographic protocols with which the Manager will send e-mails.

Otherwise, TLC will use all protocols in this field for e-mail communications.

Note: To successfully employ a cryptographic protocol for e-mail, the protocol must also be enabled in:

The e-mail server

The operating system of the e-mail server

The operating system of your TLC Manager

TLC will employ the most secure protocol supported by all of these systems.
